Sock Class

Two Socks on Two Circular Needles Toe Up Class.

Class 1- Learn how to get both socks on two circular needles and start your increases for the toe.  You then take home and finish the foot section and come back for class 2.
Class 2- Learn the short row heel.
$25.00 per class.

NOTE:

Normally I teach this class with sock yarn on size 2 or 3 needles, but this time I decided to show you how to make socks on needles that are a bit larger along with larger yarn. These will end up as bigger socks that will be easier to see and knit; the concept of using 2 circulars for the socks should be easier to grasp.  Once you understand the concept, you can "graduate" down to the smaller yarn using smaller needles.

CHOICE OF CLASS 1:

Thursday, January 27th 9 a.m.
Thursday, January 27th 1 p.m.
Thursday, January 27th 6 p.m.

Friday, January 28rh 9 a.m
Friday, January 28th 1 p.m.  (If these times do not work out for you we can always find an individual time)

Supplies:  Worsted weight yarn and size 5 needles OR  DK weight needles and size 4 needles.

10% discount on supplies purchased at The Yarn Shoppe.

Call for your reservation today!

Gift-a-Month 2011 Challenge!

Hello, fellow crafters! Courtney here. I have a challenge for you.

When I first felt accomplished enough as a knitter to give people gifts, I’d often start them sometime in early December. After a few failures, and extreme late night knit sessions to finish projects on Christmas Eve, it dawned on me that summer is probably a more appropriate time to start working on handmade holiday gifts. Then, I started working on larger holiday gifts. Whole sweaters and shawls and the like. These take a REALLY long time to knit, so this year, I scaled down and made socks, hats and other accessory items. This was definitely more doable, but I started too late again (like, after Thanksgiving). So, inspired by my friend Brenda, this year I am going to attempt to knit at least one item a month, so that I can relax next December instead of giving myself carpel tunnel.

This is my challenge to myself and to you. Are you game? Here are a few options I am currently considering:

Fiddlehead Mittens

Endpaper Mitts

Falling Water Scarf

Star-Crossed Slouchy Beret

Domo-Kun

Baby Chalice Blanket

Stop in or comment below and let us know if you accept the challenge. There's nothing like accountability to keep you to your goals! Happy knitting!

Latest News!

Hello Everyone, and a belated Happy New Year!

I have some exciting news.

For those of you who haven't heard, I was married in June and have been busy packing, moving, packing and then moving again.  What a way to get rid of "stuff"!  I had planned to be back in Davenport much more often, but it just hasn't been possible.

So, Jean Jones is the new owner of The Yarn Shoppe.  Jean is the owner of the Home Environment Center and happens to be my mother!  She has been a teacher and businesswoman her entire life and is very excited to be moving the shop forward into 2011.   It is with a huge sense of empty nest syndrome and great happiness that I turn the reins over to Jean.

Judy will remain in place as manager and Courtney, Cindy and Gill will still be there as well.  They're the best at what they do and I'm so proud of them!!
The name, location, phone, etc. will remain the same for the shop.

We can all look forward to a new and improved shop with the great yarns that will arrive shortly.  I can't wait to see it!

Please take care of yourselves and each other. Keep getting motivated over new projects--in life and in knitting.  I miss you all and look forward to this future endeavor.

Sincerely,

Laurel
